After over twenty years of trying the Fraser surname has finally gone to victory lane in the SSA Modified Sedans WA State Title.
Branden Fraser dominated the forty lap main event last night at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway in the Goldfields region of Western Australia leading from start to finish.
Former WA Champion Allan Mortimer have a very solid evening aboard his Blackman Fabrications Ford Falcon to hold on to second ahead of the Stevens Siblings Coby & Paul.
Eighteen starters arrived in Kalgoorlie to contest the event with Jack McAuley and Blake Jackson’s title quests all over before then even started after suffering engine issues in Official Practice.
Branden Fraser qualified on pole position for the main event with Sean Theyer sharing the front row.
Sixteen cars faced the start in the main event with Hamish Macalpine’s race only lasting thirty metres after hitting the concrete wall which saw his Ford Cortina suffer steering damage.
At the second attempt at a start Luke Fraser and Jeff Steele came to a rest hooked together in turn one which lead to a lengthy delay.
Both Steele and Luke Fraser were able to restart with Jayke Malcolm and Adam Houston retiring from the race without completing a lap.
After the third attempt at the start the field sorted themselves out with Sean Theyer falling back through the pack in the early stages.
Branden Fraser pulled a healthy margin over the rest of the field with Mortimer, Luke Fraser and the two Stevens having a great battle for the minor placings.
Further back in the field Rick Musarra sustained a flat left rear tyre as he exited the track with Calon Ball and Anthony King getting locked together in the main straight.
King would take no further part with Branden Fraser again pulling away to a big lead after the restart.
The battle for the minor placings was the focal point of the concluding stages with Luke Fraser trying everything to find a way past Mortimer with Theyer, Steele and the Stevens all in the mix for a spot on the podium.
With nine laps remaining incredibly Coby & Paul Stevens got hooked together with Paul being sent to the rear of the field.
Just eight cars remained for the sprint to the finish with Branden Fraser pulling clear of the battle behind him.Jeff Steele spun out of fifth place with three laps remaining as Luke Fraser ran wide and fell back to sixth place after trying everything to find a way past Mortimer.Fraser cruised to victory in the end ahead of Mortimer, Coby Stevens and Paul Stevens who passed Sean Theyer for fourth on the final lap.Luke Fraser was officially sixth with defending champion Jeff Steele and Matt Kata the remaining finishers.
