Nathan Penn has taken out round three of the 2018/2019 Cranecorp WA Modified Sedan Series held on Saturday night at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway in conjunction with the Civil Hirings Christmas Cup.
Penn defeated Branden Fraser and Rick Musarra in what was a great night of Speedway Sedan racing with fifteen Modified Sedans descending on the popular South West venue.
Extremely warm weather conditions greeted competitors and spectators with the nights racing a test for both man and machine.
Six heat races were held across the night with Nathan Penn the only competitor to win on more than one occasion.
The Southern Stump and Mulching Services Shootout saw high drama with Rick Musarra and current Western Australian Champion Anthony King getting hooked together. Musarra survived the incident and advanced from fifth to start on the front row with Nathan Penn for the main event.
At the start of the feature race an opening lap pile up took place when Rick Musarra and Matt Noakes got hooked together in the first corner with multiple other cars getting caught up in it.
Veteran drivers Richard Nelson and Merv Penn were both out on the opening lap with damage to their cars.
Nathan Penn would lead the early laps when the race got back underway with Matt Noakes quickly moving into second place past Musarra.
Anthony King who was sitting in fourth place lost his right rear wheel on lap five causing another stoppage.
Under the yellow light conditions Noakes was relegated two positions back to fourth place for the restart.
With twelve laps remaining Branden Fraser made a bold move around the outside of Musarra to move into second place and then quickly chased after the leader.
Penn and Fraser raced side by side for a number of laps before Penn got the better of the battle with Matt Noakes retiring from fourth place on lap ten.
Jayden McCuish tried in vain to find a way past Musarra for the final spot on the podium with Sandy Macpherson and Allan Mortimer having a great tussle for fifth.
Nathan Penn cruised to victory in the end to record his fourth A Main victory of his career in the WA Modified Sedan Series.
Fraser was gallant to finish second ahead of Musarra, McCuish, and Macpherson with Allan Mortimer slowing in the final laps to finish eighth.
WA Modified Sedans now have a short turnaround before contesting the 3rd Annual South Coast Classic to be held at Albanys Attwell Park Speedway on Saturday 5th January 2019.
