Albany’s Laurie Dowsett has tonight won the Fourth Round of the 2020/2021 Blackman Fabrication WA Modified Sedan Series at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway in front of a large crowd.

The event which was courtesy of Civil Hirings attracted a strong field of eighteen drivers and once again saw a great display of racing from the Modified Sedans.

The opening round of heats would be very eventful with Jayke Malcolm losing a right-rear wheel before completing the first lap of heat one.

Laurie Dowsett lead from the outset of the race, as Sam McAuley fought off Shane Dubberlin for second and third. Kathryn Harper and Calon Ball also had a tremendous battle, which lasted the length of the race. Despite everything he tried, Sam McAuley would have to settle for second, as Dowsett would go on to win the heat, with Shane Dubberlin finishing a close third ahead of Paul Stevens.

Heat Two would see Jarrod Rick retired before the race got underway, as Merv Penn and Ashley Baker made contact, bringing on the yellow lights. For the restart, Luke Fraser would be elevated to the front row alongside brother Branden.

Branden would get the best of the start and lead for the length of the race, until brother Luke posed a challenge in the final two laps. Luke would find his way past, as Adam Houston also charged through the field.

Mick Hamon would retire from the event with front suspension failure, as would Merv Penn, who had a flat tyre. Luke Fraser would go on to record the victory ahead of Branden Fraser and Adam Houston.

Heat three would be all Adam Houston’s, as he lead convincingly from start to finish. Kevin Ellement, Calon Ball, Laurie Dowsett and Ashley Baker would endure a fantastic battle throughout the entire race, with Ellement doing everything he could to hold off the challengers.

Houston would not be headed even with heavy lapped traffic and would win from Kevin Ellement and Calon Ball. The fourth heat of the night would see one of the saves of the season, as Luke Fraser got ever so close to tipping his FGX Ford Falcon in turn 3.

The yellow lights would come on, as officials retrieved Fraser’s car from the track, as Mick Hamon continued to lead from Anthony King and Branden Fraser. Even with a yellow light stoppage for Paul Stevens who suffered a flat tyre, Hamon would be too strong, defeating King and Branden Fraser.

Heat five would be a thriller as Branden Fraser, Shane Dubberlin and Mick Hamon battled for the win throughout the race. Fraser would soon start to open a sizeable lead, as Hamon continued to apply the pressure to Shane Dubberlin. It didn’t take long for Hamon to make the pass for second, despite Dubberlin’s best efforts.

Branden Fraser would go on to win, defeating Mick Hamon, Shane Dubberlin and Miranda Ball. The final qualifying heat of the night would see Paul Stevens take the lead into the first corner, as Ashley Baker, Calon Ball and Jayke Malcolm tried to move through the field.

Adam Houston again looked quick adding himself into this battle, until a flat tyre forced him to retire. Jayke Malcolm and Laurie Dowsett would also retire, as Stevens, Baker and Ball jostled for the lead. Ashley Baker would soon spin trying to pass for the lead, leaving Paul Stevens to score the victory from Calon Ball and Kevin Ellement.

In the Southern Stump and Mulching Services Shootout, Laurie Dowsett the sixth and final qualifier would defeat Calon Ball, Paul Stevens, Adam Houston and Mick Hamon to progress to the front row. He would find himself up against Branden Fraser in the final instalment of the shootout, where Dowsett would make the best of the jump, before Fraser found a way past coming out of the final turn.

Branden Fraser courtesy of his win would collect the cash bonus from Southern Stump and Mulching Services Shootout, as well as pole position for the twenty lap final to come. In the twenty lap feature race it was Laurie Dowsett who would start on the outside of the front row and lead the field into turns 1 and 2.

Branden Fraser sat in second and looked for a way past Dowsett early in the race, but couldn’t find a way past the potent FGX Ford Falcon. Adam Houston would be an early race retiree, as he bunched the field up trying to exit the race track.

Mick Hamon would sit in third and looked content to just wait for his chance, which soon came as he moved to the outside of Fraser and took away second position exiting turn four. Paul Stevens also looked to by himself into this battle for second, although had to sit behind Hamon and Branden Fraser for the entirety of the race.

Further back lady racers Miranda Ball and Kathryn Harper had a great duel for the minor places, until Ball had a half spin, losing the position to Harper. From this point, no one would catch Laurie Dowsett who would lead from the start to the finish, defeating Mick Hamon by nearly ten seconds.

Branden Fraser would finish third ahead of Paul Stevens and Ashley Baker, who rounded out the top five.
