Newman’s Donny Davis and Port Hedland’s Croyd Hughes have claimed the feature race wins for SSA Junior Sedans as apart of the 35th Annual Far Western Championships conducted yesterday at the Oakley Earthworks Shark Bay Speedway in Western Australia.
Davis claimed victory in a shorten main event for the Top Star class after a nasty spill for Jesse James Samuels on the opening lap when he rolled his Hyundai Excel on the back straight after climbing over the Mitsubishi Lancer of Zak Turner.
Samuels was unhurt in the incident in what was the nastiest accident of the day across all the classes racing at the event.Brock Lake, Kai Leeson, Zak Turner and Vince Lindsay would all be unable to restart the race which left just nine cars to contest the remaining twelve laps.
Unfortunately Shark Bay local Ella Ricetti came to grief on the back straight forcing her out of the contest which brought about another restart.
Finally the race got underway with Donny Davis pulling away in the early stages from Chayse Jackson & Tyde Lovell who engaged in a great battle for second with the pair swapping positions throughout the race.
Davis would lead all the way recording one of the biggest wins of his career from Jackson, Lovell, Travis Strelley, Zakiya Costa and Hunter Downs the only six finishers
.A number of stoppages plagued the A Main for the New Star Junior Sedans during their fifteen lap finale.
Port Hedland’s Jett Downs found himself coming into contact with pole sitter Mitch Binning in the Ivix Industries Hyundai Excel on the opening lap with Binning spinning in front of the field leaving Steven Peaker with nowhere to go.
Heavy damage was sustained by both Peaker and Binning in the incident with the duo unable to continue in the race.
Archie Root inherited pole position for the complete restart with the driver of the East Pilbara Tyre Service Mitsubishi Lancer leading the opening laps with the race punctuated with a number of stoppages.
Root lead the way before Croyd Hughes took over the front running on lap eight with Jesse Hamon challenging the two leaders.
The yellows came on again on lap twelve when Archie Root came to a stop on the back straight which lead to a three lap restart.
Hughes negotiated the final two circulations to claim victory from Hamon and Shark Bay’s Brody Child rounding out the poduim.
Junior Sedans will once again be apart of the 36th Annual Far Western Championships when they are staged in 2023.
