Press Release by Speedway Sedans Western Australia.
For the second time in as many titles, youngster Donny Davis from Newman in WA’s North has set the quickest lap in official practice.
After setting the quickest time in practice for the WA Junior Sedan Title at the Ellenbrook Speedway back in April, Davis, just sixteen years old, has since stepped up into the senior ranks and tonight set the fastest lap in official practice at the Port Hedland Speedway in the 2023 SSA Street Stock WA State Title.
The initial fast lap was set by Northern Territorian Jack Yates with a 22.885 in the second session, with Davis coming out five sessions later to set a blistering 22.848 second lap, just 0.037 second ahead of Yates.
Derby’s Jake Hoath set the third fastest lap of the evening in the nineteenth session (of twenty one held), just 0.060 seconds behind Yates, with only the top three drivers dipping into the twenty two second bracket, while Australia #2 Ben Norman was fourth overall and Jace Kempton rounded out the top five.
Sixty three of the sixty six cars in the Title ran practice laps across the evening, and despite a fire in the area threatening to bring the sessions to a premature close, all runs were able to take place.
The biggest incident of the evening was in practice session eighteen when Matt Hammond, who was actually fastest in that group, managed to invert his Holden Commodore in turn two. He was able to drive away and back to the pits, so hopes are high he will continue on tomorrow.
Racing begins tomorrow from 6pm, with the Grand Parade taking place at 5.45pm. Drivers will contest three rounds of heat racing tomorrow, while Sunday night will see one final round of heats prior to the final races.
All the action is available live across the weekend on Clay Per View, while live results will, as always, be uploaded to the SSWA Facebook page.
