Victoria’s Jamie Collins has won the Herbs Pizza Tasmanian Super Sedan Title at Gulf Western and Independent Oils Raceway in Latrobe to win his first state title in Super Sedans.
Collins qualified on the outside of the front row next to Tasmania’s Callum Harper who was the top point scorer after three rounds of heats.
Collins would jump to the lead from the outset ahead of Harper, and Western Australia’s Lee Aylett who started on the outside of the second row.
Collins, Harper and Aylett ran in close quarters in the early going in what was a top dominant race track. The leading trio hit lap traffic after ten laps.
Harper dove to the inside in a bid for the lead, but couldn’t make it stick. Aylett rallied on the top side of the track and took second place on lap twelve.
Collins was held up by a lap car bringing Aylett and Harper back into the mix for the lead. Tyson Moon, Matty Pascoe, Sean Black, and Brad Pascoe also bridged the gap and you could throw a blanket over the top seven after fifteen laps.
The lead trio of Collins, Aylett and Harper moved clear again as they headed towards half race distance.Aylett got a massive run out of turn two on lap eighteen.
Aylett arrived to turn three at a rate of knots and rode the right rear wheel, which resulted in heavy contact with the wall, ending his race.
Collins resumed the race in the lead still with Harper hot on his hammer.
Moon was briefly promoted to third, but his race would end on lap twenty six from a mechanical failure.
This would promote Brad Pascoe to third, and he was quickly on the back of Harper challenging for second. Collins and Harper would make a move to the inside of a lap car in turns one and two, leaving the top line open for Pascoe.
Harper made contact with Collins left rear, which bobbled his car and moved him up track, colliding with Pascoe, sending Harper spinning down the back straight.
A racing incident was called by the stewards leaving the top three the same as before the caution.
Harper would spin from the resulting restart, succumbing to steering damage from the earlier incident which ended his race after twenty nine laps.
The top four of Collins, Brad Pascoe, Black and Matty Pascoe would break away from the rest of the field on the restart.
Brad Pascoe made a dive for the lead in turns one and two leaving the top side open for Black to take second place with seven laps remaining.
Black continued to hound Collins, but Collins was able to thwart the challenge and go on to record his first Tasmanian Super Sedan Title, just 0.248 seconds clear of Black in second.Brad Pascoe was third in a blanket finish of the top four, just clear of Matty Pascoe in fourth.
Marcus Alexander was the first Tasmanian home in fifth rounding out the top five.
The 2023 Tassie Tiger Super Sedan Trail continues this Friday and Saturday night with the Grand National at AutoKlene Hobart Raceway.
