Round Two of the ODH Mechanical Tri-City Series is here, and we head to the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway for two nights of racing for the Collie Ridge Resort Street Stock Coal Miner.
The Coal Miner will again continue its tradition of adding a lap to the Finale in an event created by local drivers and team members that is unique but still has the excitement that Street Stocks brings.
This year, there is an added twist, with two nights of racing beginning on Friday Night. The members have again spiced things up with another American-style format that has a Gateway Dirt Nationals Twist to it.
On the opening night, there will be two preliminary features, split into odds and evens.
The top five in each will automatically lock themselves into the 53-lap main event.
The rest will have two more shots to lock themselves into the show on night two, giving the Coal Miner that feeling that it’s something different for all involved.
Thirty-two drivers from all points of the state will make their way to the Coalfields, with the field filled with drivers who are all with a shot of taking home the big prize.
Matt Hammond comes in as the defending Coal Miner Champion and has had a good run as of late at the venue, winning the last Street Stock feature on November 16.
Hayden Norman holds onto a slim two-point lead over round one winner Jake Hoath, but both drivers must watch their tails as the top five in points make their way to Collie.
Kayne Dellar, who was two corners away from his biggest win to take at the Brian Rose Memorial, will be looking for redemption, and so too will be Damon Lyall and last year’s Tri-City Series Peter Dowie, who all would be wanting a better run in Collie.
Collie has been such a hot bet of Street Stock drivers, and with locals Linda Yates, Paul Briggs, Cody Avins and a new car for Ethan Genev, there will be plenty to watch out for over Friday and Saturday Night.
Racing will begin at 6 p.m. both nights. You can watch it live on Real Speedway Television.
