Northern New South Wales competitor Lawson Clarke has made the long journey across Australia worthwhile so far, leading the overall points score after the opening night of action at the Tyres & More Esperance Speedway.

The opening heats delivered immediate excitement, with Archie Root leading early in Heat One before Noah Bain made the most of a greasy track to take the win ahead of Root and Travis Dhu. Heat Two saw Bailey Chandler break away from the field, while Brax Hardy surged into second late, edging Jamie Comley.

In Heat Three, Blake Beach jumped to the early lead, but as the track came in Lachie Burke closed rapidly and made a decisive move with two laps remaining to defeat Beach and Cody Colmer. Heat Four belonged to Lawson Clarke, who led every lap to defeat Jake Synnott and Joel Bowman.

Heat Five was interrupted by the first stoppage of the event when Ava Wilson was collected by Tyler Beer, Kaden Harrison and Jack Wilson, with all but Harrison restarting. Lincoln Hoath led the restart while Beer charged from ninth to second by lap two, falling just 0.356 seconds short at the finish as Hoath claimed the win from Beer and Sam Mills.

The first red light of the weekend appeared in Heat Six after Casey Eather tipped over on the back straight, the incident also eliminating James Peacock. Once racing resumed, Benji Gordon survived heavy pressure from Kasey Clarke and Brock Barrett to take a hard-fought victory.

Heat Seven saw Luke Bailey escape at the front while a five-car battle raged behind him, with Cruz Carlin moving into second before a late yellow came out as the white flag waved. Bailey held on the for the win ahead of Travis McGaffin and Carlin. In Heat Eight, Jacob Hull led from the front and raced away to claim the win in the final heat of the opening round ahead of Ryan Burns and Caleb Henry.

Joel Bowman made his move early in Heat Nine, racing into the lead and holding off a fast-finishing Lawson Clarke. Heat Ten featured a South Australian showdown between Brodie Reichstein and Henry Brumfield, but Reichstein’s race ended in the turn three wall, handing the lead to Mason Whitehead before a heavy rollover for Tiffany Humphrys set up a green–white–chequer finish, with Whitehead holding off Zac Favero and Luke Bailey.

Heat Eleven saw Sophie Goodwin charging forward before contact sent her into the wall, while Emily Bates and Connor Carse were also eliminated. At the front, Max Lang dominated to defeat River Spitzbarth, with Benji Gordon snatching third from Lucas Stevens in the final corner.

Defending national champion Harrison Beres made full use of his front-row start in Heat Twelve, leading home James Peacock and Jake Bradley. Heat Thirteen lived up to its name of unlucky, proving chaotic with multiple failed starts and a heavy rollover for Ryan Burns, before Brock Barrett led away and ultimately defeated Cruz Carlin, with Sam Mills third after Tyler Beer flipped approaching the chequered flag to bring out the red flag for the fourth time in the night..

An intense seven-car battle unfolded in Heat Fourteen, with Wyatt Van Der Mey initially leading before Brax Root moved underneath to take control and pull away, winning from Van Der Mey and Archie Root. Heat Fifteen saw side-by-side battles throughout the front pack, with Noah Bain emerging victorious for the second time in as many races ahead of Koby Rickerby and Bailey Chandler.

In the final heat of round two, Jesse Hamon charged from row two to take the lead on lap one and held off sustained pressure from Baxter Trouchet and Jake Leaman to secure the win.

Heat Seventeen produced one of the closest finishes of the event, with Zac Favero leading late before running wide in the final straight, allowing Max Lang to dive underneath for a 0.045-second win; however, Lang was later relegated for an infield pass, handing the victory to Favero ahead of Joel Bowman. Heat Eighteen saw River Spitzbarth lead early before Luke Bailey executed a decisive last-lap move to take the win from Spitzbarth and Jacob Hill.

An opening-lap incident in Heat Nineteen eliminated Bailey Chandler while battling Lachie Burke, who went on to claim victory as locals Max Macalpine and Sophie Goodwin completed the podium. Heat Twenty belonged to Cruz Carlin, who charged into the lead early and survived a restart to defeat Jamie Comley and Jake Bradley.

Lawson Clarke recorded his second heat win in Heat Twenty-One, racing to the lead from third and pulling clear of Brad Marshall and Sam Mills. After multiple attempts to get underway, Heat Twenty-Two saw Jake Synnott and Brodie Reichstein trade the lead, with Reichstein charging from tenth and edging out the win by just 0.026 seconds ahead of Cody Colmer and Synnott.

Cars were scattered across the track in Heat Twenty-Three as the field fought fiercely for position, but it was Benji Gordon who emerged at the front to defeat Nathan Brown and Oscar Amato. The final heat, Heat Twenty-Four, saw Kasey Clarke withstand pressure from Jake Leaman, with defending champion Harrison Beres closing late as Clarke secured the win.

With the points tallied Lawson Clarke leads with 100, while fellow New South Welshman Benji Gordon holds down second overall with 95. Luke Bailey is the first West Australian at this point, equal with Gordon on 95 while Victorian Cruz Carlin and the fastest man in official practice, Joel Bowman, round out the top five on 87 points apiece.

Racing will pick up again tomorrow night with one more round of heats prior to the main events.
