Clarke in Contention
Last Friday night Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway would host the finale of the TSS Smackdown Series for Modified Sedans and after a great night of racing it would be Max Clarke who stood tall, claiming the feature race win.
Fourteen cars would take the green flag in the feature race, with Max Clarke and Nathan Macdonald starting on the front row.
The duo would drag race for the whole first lap, Macdonald just able to get the nose in front as he ran on the outside.
Clarke wouldn’t give up and continued to apply the pressure on the inside line, and would get himself back in front on the third circulation.
As they completed lap six Macdonald was able to dive to the inside through turns one and two and again he emerged as the leader, but Clark again made his way back to the inside and retook the lead once again.
With fifteen to go Macdonald again retook the lead, while behind them Greg Worling and Josh Harm were fighting hard for the final spot on the podium.
Two laps later Clarke again took the lead, and this time lapped traffic would get involved, the duo zigging and zagging as the continued to battle through the slower cars.
Worling would begin to slow with around nine laps to run, seeing Harm moving into third and Shane Macdonald into fourth, and Worling was unable to get off the track, seeing the yellows come on.
Clarke raced away on the restart, Nathan Macdonald now under pressure from Harm as the top five ran line astern.
As the laps wound down JJ Hamilton made his presence felt, moving into fourth and putting the pressure on Harm for third, but up front Clarke maintained his lead and claimed the win, Macdonald right on his bumper as they took the chequers. Hamilton dove past Harm to take third in the final corner only to be penalised post-race, seeing Harm awarded the final podium position.
The win would be the perfect lead in for Clarke ahead of this weekend’s 2025 ENZED SSA Modified Sedan National Title at B&S Earthworks Timmis Speedway Mildura, giving him plenty of confidence, not to mention the overall win in the Modified Sedan TSS Smackdown Series, while Macdonald will also be hoping to continue his good run at Mildura in a few days’ time.
