CLARKE CLAIMS THE CAMARO’S FIRST STATE TITLE

Official Release Sunday 8th December 2024.

Max Clarke has taken his Superior Painting Chev Camaro to victory in the 2024/2025 Toowoomba Steering & Suspension SSA Modified Sedan State Title conducted last night at the Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway.

In what was the 42nd running of the event, Clarke became just the second New South Wales based competitor to win the Queensland State Title for Modified Sedans and the first in thirty three years.

Clarke crossed the line at the end of the forty laps less than second ahead of Toowoomba local Nathan Macdonald with Victorian Brody Chrystie officially third.

The three rounds of heat racing and two B Main provided plenty of entertainment with a heavy rollover for the Ford Cortina of Steve Bradford marring an incident plagued second fifteen lap B Main.

Defending Queensland Champion Matt Nelson would require the provisional to even start the forty lap decider as Clarke and multiple current state champion Joel Berkley shared the front row.

Berkley along with teammate for the weekend in the Down Under Graphics Jamie Oldfield from Western Australia were the first retirements after six circulations.

Lap thirteen saw the first yellow for an incident between Nathan Macdonald & Rodney Pammenter while battling for fifth place.

After the restart Clarke cleared out from the field as the battle for the minors raged between the two Macdonald brothers, 2024 Kings Royal Winner Dylan Barrow, Victorian Brody Chrystie and current Australia 2 Brodie Boss in the Nissan.

The stricken Ford Falcon of Chris Medcalf set up a seventeen lap run to the flag as Clarke continued to lead from Nathan Macdonald and Barrow.

Three time Queensland Champion Aidan Raymont worked his way from one of the B Mains to be challenging Shane Macdonald and Brody Chrystie for a position inside the top five as the laps wound down.

With five laps remaining former Queensland Modified Sedan Champion Steve Jordan brought the yellow lights as he limped to a stop with broken suspension on the right front of his Ford.

Straight after the restart Barrow & Raymont would get together in turn one with both Ford Falcons retiring from the race.

Chris Pagel limped to the outside of the racetrack straight after the restart with former Queensland Champion Shane Macdonald retiring from the race as smoked poured from the Linmac Holden Commodore after rounding inside the top three.

At the end of a torrid forty laps it would be Clarke’s title as he held off Nathan Macdonald, Brody Chrystie, Brodie Boss and B Main 1 winner Brooke Ferguson the top five as twelve of the original twenty three starters completed the event.

The Queensland State Title kicks off a busy time for Modified Sedan racing in Queensland with many blue ribbon events coming up over the next couple of months in the region
