Carnarvon drivers have dominated the SSA Street Stocks feature race in the 33rd annual Far Western Championships at the Shark Bay Speedway yesterday afternoon.
Jace Kempton and Damon Lyall won four of the six heats held throughout the day between them, setting up a front row start in the fifteen lap feature followed by defending Far Westerns Champion Gavin Minty and Daniel Stanley who had earlier claimed the other two preliminaries.
As the race went green it was Damon Lyall who pulled away, with Kempton unable to match his pace and closely followed by Gavin Minty.
As the race went on, Lyall was lapping with ease through traffic while Kempton fought valiantly to stay in touch with the leader, but a caution on lap twelve would change the complexion of the race after Gavin Minty went up on two wheels, somehow able to avoid rolling over.
He would be unable to rejoin the field for the final three laps, with the field bunched back up for the restart with Lyall leading away Kempton and his younger brother Trent Lyall now in third place.
Kempton didn’t need to be asked twice as he swooped past Lyall to take over the lead, racing away over the final couple of laps to grab a solid win, his second in three years in the Street Stocks. Kempton’s fellow Carnarvon drivers Damon and Trent Lyall rounded out the podium.
