Last night at the Gympie Speedway it was Hayden Brims who continued on his strong form from Night One to claim the opening round of the McCosker Super Sedan Series.
Brims would start in position four for the final after high points man Sean Black inverted the top six started for the feature, with the front row shared by Mick Nicola Snr and Michael Hally, with Zac Brims coming from position three.
Hally used the outside line to his advantage as the thirty-five lap feature went green, Nicola into second before Zac Brims drew alongside him and tried to take the position, able to make the move on the third lap.
Nicola would now come under pressure from a pack of six cars headed by Hayden Brims, but up front Hally had pulled well clear of the field, though Zac Brims was significantly closing the gap as the laps wound down.
Hayden Brims and Harry Doyle would both get by Nicola for third and fourth respectively, the duo then setting out to chase down the top two who were over a third of a lap ahead.
With nine laps complete the yellows came out for a couple of cars that spun together in turn two, bunching the field up for a restart, Hally to lead away Zac and Hayden Brims.
Zac Brims used the lowline and was able to take the lead though turns one and two shortly after, but the very next corner saw it all come undone, Hally spinning in turn three, somehow the whole field able to avoid him.
As fate would have it though, Leigh Williams was also stranded at the other end of the track and the yellow lights came on for that incident split seconds before the spin, seeing Hally reinstated at the front and Williams towed infield to become the first and only retiree of the race.
Hally would lead the field away once again, and again Zac Brims would dive to the inside, but this time Hally held on, Zac Brims low and Hayden Brims high right behind him.
Hayden got clear into second, with Doyle utilising the outside line to get by Zac for third with twenty-two remaining.
Brims would close the gap on Hally over the next ten laps, right on his tail with twelve to go, Doyle and Zac Brims line astern directly behind, but it wouldn’t be until seven to go and lapped traffic came into play that Hayden got the chance he needed, drawing alongside Hally on the inside and then taking the lead.
Hally attempted to get back by but couldn’t make the pass stick, Hayden Brims racing away to take the win from Hally with Doyle holding on for third ahead of Zac Pascoe who snuck into fourth ahead of Zac Brims in the dying stages of the race.
The next round of the McCosker Super Sedan Series will be held at Gladstone on the 18th of October.
