The opening night of the Ash Page Memorial at the Hillview Speedway had a bit of everything, but in the end it was Joel Bowman (Top Stars), Blake McGaffin (New Stars), Matt Lowe (Street Stocks) and Kye Blight (Production Sedans) who would lead the overnight points tallies.
Matt Lowe put in a huge performance across the Street Stock heats to come away with two wins and a third to lead State Champion Jake Hoath and local driver Craig Clayton. The nine heats would all be hard fought affairs, with seven different drivers all sharing a win.
The Production Sedans also put on some great racing, Kye Blight racing to an on the line win in the final race of the opening night to lead the standings. He would top the tables after finishing with two wins as would defending Ash Page Memorial winner Nuno Mendes who sits in second. Jorj Park rounds out the top three.
The Top Stars would see the biggest incident of the night, the end of heat four seeing Jack McGaffin and Archie Root coming together as they crossed the line, and both rolling over, ending McGaffin’s weekend and seeing Root forced to jump into a substitute car for the remainder of the opening night.
With points tallied, both Joel Bowman and Luke Bailey scoring two wins and a third to be tied on 95, Bowman just getting the nod due to a faster lap time while Koby Rickerby holds down third overall.
In the New Stars division it has been Blake McGaffin who dominated, claiming the win in all three heats to lead the overnight points from Noah Eyre and Brinley McGaffin Jnr.
Production Sedans and Street Stocks both have one more round of heats tomorrow night prior to their twenty lap feature races, which will in turn be a prelude to the all in 35 lap Ash Page Memorial, while the Junior Sedans will each have two more rounds of heats prior to their finals.
Action kicks off once again at 6pm, with live coverage also available on Clay-Per-View.
