West Australian Production Sedan Champion, Drew Ogle proved at the Quit Collie Speedway on Saturday night, he will be very hard to be in the upcoming West Australian Production Sedan Title at the Coalfields venue, after he won the Feature event in a high quality field.
His victory was set up with one stunning move, where he passed both Barry Rose and leader Beau Riley on the outside to take the lead.
Beau Riley and Richard Nelson would start on the front row for the twenty lap main event, with Ogle and Rose on row two.
The track was lightning fast and the lead four cars put on a great spectacle for the crowd. The first move would come from Richard Nelson, who moved to the outside of Riley exiting turn two, but Nelson clipped the fence, losing two placings in the process, and ultimately retired soon after.
Riley, Rose and Ogle would run two and three wide through the first four laps, before Ogle made one of the best moves seen in Production Sedans in quite a while where he passed both Rose and Riley in one move, entering the main straight.
Ogle threaded the eye of the needle squeezing between Riley and the outside fence. Riley and Rose continued a tremendous battle for second as Ogle opened a five car length lead. Riley eventually succumbed to the persistent pressure from Barry Rose who then set out after Ogle.
Rose did reduce the lead of Ogle and at times looked likely of being able to catch the State Champion, but alas it was not to be with Ogle winning the Feature event by three car lengths, with the race going flag to flag.
Riley would finish third, while another great race had developed between Shannon Cherry, Wayne Leviston and Dale Cockman, with the trio practically inseparable over the last six laps. Leviston would get the better of the exchange late, finishing fourth in a blanket finish with Cherry and Cockman fifth and sixth respectively. Robbie Trenaman would finish seventh, the final driver on the lead lap.
