Blue Ribbon Raceway will come alive this Saturday as a huge field of fifty one drivers converge to contest the SSA Street Stock Victorian Title, with the entire championship now set to be decided in one action-packed day of racing. The event also marks a special milestone for the venue, with Blue Ribbon Raceway celebrating 30 years of racing this weekend.
With heats and the championship feature all scheduled for Saturday, drivers will face a demanding program where consistency and speed will be critical. With such a large field on the tight Kalkee clay, every heat race will be vital as competitors battle to secure a place in the Victorian Title final.
Headlining the field is two-time and defending Victorian Champion Nathan Thorne, who returns aiming to make it three titles in succession. Thorne will be one of the drivers to beat once again, but the road to the championship will be anything but easy.
Among those looking to stop him are several former Victorian Champions, including Dale Morrison, Matt Nelson and Mick Dann, all of whom bring proven title-winning experience into the event. Each has demonstrated the ability to perform under the pressure of championship racing and will be strong contenders when the feature race rolls around.
Morris Ahearn was second in last year’s Title at Wangaratta and will be looking to go one better while others including Mick Clark have also had podium finishes previously and are keen to walk away with Victoria #1.
The field also features a host of highly competitive drivers capable of challenging at the front, including experienced racers such as Leigh Gooding, Shaun henry and Nick Chrystie, along with a number of interstate competitors including Drew and Darren Flatman and Heath Thorne, making the trip in search of Victorian Title success.
With more than fifty cars nominated and only one driver able to claim the prestigious crown, fans can expect a fierce night of Street Stock racing as drivers fight their way through the heats and into the all-important championship final.
The action takes place this Saturday, March 14 at Blue Ribbon Raceway, Kalkee, with gates opening at 1:00pm and racing scheduled to begin at 2:00pm. Fans unable to attend can catch all the action live via Clay-Per-View, ensuring the Victorian Title battle can be watched from anywhere. With the state championship on the line and the venue celebrating three decades of racing, it promises to be a memorable night at Blue Ribbon Raceway.
