Sean Black has taken out a thrilling feature race in round fourteen of the McCosker Super Sedan Series at Hi-Tec Oils Toowoomba Speedway on his birthday.

Black got his night off to the perfect start when he won the opening heat race of the evening on his home track.

David Musch railed the top of the track to take the win in heat two ahead of Josh McLaren and Trent Wilson.

Rockhampton’s Michael Larsen took the lead from the outset in heat three and led home National Champion Matty Pascoe and New South Welshman Dion Bennett.

Wilson secured top point scorer and pole position when he won heat four. Wilson led home the returning Darren Kane who started from the rear, and Steve Jordan in third.

Tasmanian David Nichols was too good for the field in heat five after starting from fourth. Michael Hally crossed the line second, ahead of Justin Randall in third.

Mitchell Gee won the final heat of the night and also set the lap record in the process. Zac Pascoe crossed the line second, leading his Dad Matty home in third.

As the top point scorer Wilson chose to start on outside pole with Pascoe joining him on the front row, with Kane and Nichols behind on row two.

The outside was the place to be with Wilson jumping to the lead and Nichols following him into second.

Nichols was applying plenty of pressure to Wilson pulling alongside on a couple of occasions, but Wilson was able to maintain the lead.

Pascoe entered the fray in what was a great three way scrap for the lead before the caution lights were out. Nichols and Pascoe would trade positions over the next couple of laps from resultant restarts in what was a great spectacle for the fans.

Black having started from thirteenth after a DNF in his second heat, moved on to the podium past Nichols on lap fourteen.

Black got by Pascoe from a restart on lap fifteen and set out after Wilson. Black hit the front on lap seventeen, and set about maintaining the lead for the final thirteen laps.

Pascoe moved by Wilson for second on lap nineteen and began the chase for the lead. Pascoe would hit the lead on a couple of occasions, but Black would regain the ascendancy each time.

With three laps to run the two leaders made contact out turn four and were lucky to avoid a major accident. Black was able to gather up the car a fraction quicker to regain the lead.

Black would hold on by a mere 0.076 of a second ahead of Pascoe in what was a thrilling photo finish. Wilson came out on top in the battle for the final spot on the podium ahead of Jordan in fourth, with Michael Hally rounding out the top five.
