In the final show of the Hi tec Oils Speedway season, Sean Black has claimed victory in what was also Round 18 of the McCosker Super Sedan Series.
Todd Atkins would start from pole position alongside Black in the thirty-lap final, but Black was able to use the highline to shoot into the lead. Atkins would follow closely behind with Harry Doyle locked into third ahead of Michael Hally and Zac Brims.
The yellows were out with three laps complete as Jackson Brims came to a stop facing the wrong way, bunching the field back up for a restart. Black got away cleanly while Doyle too the opportunity to shoot by Atkins for second, only for the yellow lights to come on once again a lap later.
Black led Doyle and Atkins away, with Zac Brims racing into third shortly after the resumption. The yellows then came out again with Michael Hally coming to a stop on the main straight, seeing the field bunched up once again.
The race looked to finally settle into a rhythm, Black leading Doyle, Brims, Atkins and Steve Jordan, but unfortunately the yellows were out once again, this time for Daniel Taylor who had a heavy hit to the front end of his machine after launching into the turn four wall at a rate of knots.
Contact on the restart saw Sam Hughes facing the wrong way, and with a lap not being complete, it would be a single file restart with twenty remaining. This gave the field the chance it needed to settle back in, Black able to maintain the point over Doyle and Atkins.
The top three order would not change but further back Queensland Champion Brad Pascoe was picking cars off one by one, into fourth with nine laps to go. He then set out after Atkins, who was in turn looking for a way by Doyle lap after lap as Black enjoyed a gap further ahead.
Lapped traffic began to play its part, bringing the top four together and Pascoe took the lowline with three to go to steal the position. He was right on Doyle’s tail but couldn’t quite make any moves stick, Black going on to record a strong victory over Doyle, with Pascoe settling for third.
