Press Release by the Super Sedan Association
Sean Black (Sweet 26) has won his fifth feature of the McCosker Super Sedan Series for the 2020/21 season by defeating Steve Jordan (Dominator 7) and Tyson Moon (Sweet 47). Autobarn Carina International Speedway played host to the final round of the series on Saturday night the 29th of May, the round was supported by Topline Australia.
The night got underway with six heat races. Wayne Randall (Dominator 36) was victorious in heat one aboard the Dominator house car. Teenage Rookie Hayden Brims (Rocket 111) won heat two, Sam Roza (Sweet 77) heat three, Steve Jordan heat four, Trent Wilson (Sweet 44) heat five and Sean Black heat six.
After the qualifiers it was Sam Roza and Sean Black at the top on 104 points, Roza would however claim pole position by virtue of a faster time in the heat races. Steve Jordan and Hayden Brims were tied on 100 and rounding out the top six was Tyson Moon and Trent Wilson on 92 points.
The thirty lap feature race took three attempts to get going, early casualties were Brendan Doyle and Scott Taylor who would take no further part. A spin from Hayden Brims on the second start attempt saw him give up his fourth starting spot and relegated to the rear. As the race did get underway an outside sweep from Sean Black would see the Sweet 26 into the lead on lap one.
Roza into second and Steve Jordan into third. Steve Jordan put plenty of pressure on Roza and on lap twenty one Roza made an error and spun his ford Wreckers Mustang to bring out the caution flag. The field lined up for a Delaware restart and the big winner was Hayden Brims who advanced from position nine to be in sixth place. The top five were Sean Black, Steve Jordan, Tyson Moon, Trent Wilson and Mick Nicola. And although Jordan did manage to apply pressure to Black that is how they finished.
Sean Black was thrilled to beak his “Bundy hoodoo” and celebrated win number five with his mother Leah who joined him on the infield for a roof dance. Sean paid credit to the Bundaberg crew who he said “produced a great track which was racey all night and provided plenty of passing opportunities”. The winners Sweet is sponsored by Handford Plumbing Services, Narellan Pools, Linmac Automotive, Burson’s Autoparts, Toowoomba Steering and Suspension, L Cleaning Service, DTS, Ash Media, Page Race Engines, Terry Austin Smash Repairs, DePool Shop, Scott’s FRP, GW Racing.
Runner Up finisher Steve Jordan said “my focus for the night was to finish ahead of Sam Roza to clinch second place in the Series. We were both matching finishing positions in the heats until the third round where Sam got a third and we got a fourth. That put Sam four points ahead of us so I knew I had to finish ahead of him in the feature. We put plenty of pressure on him and came away with the result. We think we have done enough to get to second but we have to wait until the Series Presentation night to find out for sure”. The Jokers Dominator number 7 is supported by Nissan 4 x 4 Parts, Sweet Chassis, Pro 1 Race Parts, Down Under Graphics and Terry White Racing.
Finishing in third place was Bega’s Tyson Moon aboard the Moons Earthworks Sweet 47. This was a great reward for the New South Welshman who has been racing in Queensland and supporting the McCosker Series on a number of occasions this season. Tyson said “we were thrilled with our car speed in the heat races collecting two second placings but we had a bit of bad luck in the third heat which resulted in a flat tyre and DNF which hurt our overall qualifying. To start fifth and race our way onto the podium was a great result for the team. Our Sweet Chassis was awesome all night long”.
Tyson Moon is sponsored by Moon’s Earthworks, Graeme Silk Race Engines, AD Shocks and Auto Pro Bega.
