Barton Gets Revenge in Albany!

After a disappointing run last weekend in the SSA Super Sedan WA Title, Broome’s Phil Barton bounced back in the best possible way, claiming victory last night at the Albany Speedway Club.

Barton was straight into the lead as the twenty-lap feature got underway while behind him was a three-car battle between Zac Minshull, Warren Minshull, and Tristan Green for second.

Unfortunately it would last only a couple of laps, the yellows coming out after Green had a spin in turn two and three other cars were left with nowhere to go and piling in.

Only Green would be unable to restart, though Lampert, who was one of the cars unable to avoid the incident, would attempt to rejoin only to pull infield as soon as the race went green once again.

Barton would lead away Warren and Zac Minshull, Barton quickly away to a huge lead while Rob Knox would close on the back of the Minshull’s and look for a way through.

Knox got crossed up coming out of turn two with twelve laps remaining, and by this time Barton was well clear, leaving the closest battle on track between father and son, Zac able to get by dad Warren for second.

With nine to go the yellows came on once again with Stephen Larson coming to a stop.

This bunched the field up once again, but Barton continued to show he was in a class of his own, racing away from Zac and Warren Minshull.

Warren would poke the nose underneath Zac a number of times over the next few laps, and with four to go he was able to make the pass.

Zac didn’t give up and continued to fight back over the next couple of laps, but this allowed Knox to close back in. Unfortunately with just three laps remaining Zac found himself in the turn three wall, bringing out the yellows and his race over.

On the restart Barton again raced away from Minshull and Knox while behind them Ian Wright and Bryce Fisher were side by side for fourth.

Barton would race away to claim a solid win ahead of Warren Minshull while in the run to the chequers Rob Knox would suddenly slow, allowing the bulk of the field to get by, Ian Wright claiming the final position on the podium.

Also on the program, Cody Colmer was victorious in the Junior Sedans, Tyron Hall in the Street Stocks and Rowan Burrell the Production Sedans.
