Press Release by WA Modified Sedans
Branden Fraser has joined his brother Luke on the winners list of the 2020/2021 Blackman Fabrication WA Modified Sedan Series, after claiming the win at Makit Hardware Narrogin Speedway tonight in difficult, trying conditions.
The event, which was proudly sponsored by Stevens Ceilings saw the West Australian champion Branden Fraser come from the middle of the pack to defeat Adam Houston and a fast finishing pair of Paul Stevens and Jarrod Rick in the opening heat of the night.
Luke Fraser would then make it a Fraser Family clean sweep, winning the second heat of the night over Allan Mortimer and Jayke Malcolm. Blake Jackson who lead the first seven laps would fail to finish with mechanical dramas.
The third heat of the night was a great race as home town hero Paul Stevens lead Branden Fraser for the entire ten lap journey. Adam Houston would manage to find his way past Luke Fraser for third positon, as Sam McAuley watched a great race unfold. Stevens would hold on to defeat Fraser and Houston.
The fourth heat of the night would also be the final after a delay due to rain and would see four cars contest the event, with Ray Clifton and Blake Jackson out for the night with mechanical dramas. Allan Mortimer would hold off all challengers to defeat Kevin Ellement, Jarrod Rick and Jayke Malcolm.
The next event for the night would be the twenty-lap feature race, after time restraints and the threat of rain meant the third round of racing, along with the Southern Stump and Mulching Services Shootout were cancelled. Allan Mortimer and Branden Fraser would start from the front row, though it was Fraser who would lead the field into turn one.
Jayke Malcolm would begin his charge through the field, and would soon join a seven car battle for the lead, as Branden Fraser lead Allan Mortimer, Luke Fraser, Adam Houston, Paul Stevens and Jarrod Rick.
As the field continued to race in close proximity, Branden Fraser began to open up his lead to a seven or eight car length lead. Meanwhile his brother Luke continued to pressure Allan Mortimer for second, while Adam Houston also began to charge through the field. Before too long, Houston would find himself in third position.
At the halfway point, Branden Fraser would continue to lead, with Allan Mortimer clearly in second. The rest of the field would then battle for third, before Luke Fraser would retire from the event. Soon after, the yellow lights would come on as Sam McAuley hit the concrete wall, ending his night.
With seven laps remaining, the field continued to battle it out for the minor places, as Branden Fraser and Allan Mortimer again cleared out from the field. Jayke Malcolm would suffer suspension damage, forcing him to the infield, as Adam Houston once again charged through the field.
As the chequered flag flew, it was Branden Fraser who would cross the line to take victory in Round 2 of the Blackman Fabrication WA Modified Sedan Series, defeating Allan Mortimer and Paul Stevens. Adam Houston would cross the line for fourth ahead of Jarrod Rick and Kevin Ellement.
The WA Modified Drivers Association would like to thank Grant and Julie Stevens from Stevens Ceilings for their ongoing support of Modified Sedan racing in Western Australia, as well as the Narrogin Speedway Club for their efforts to get our night completed in trying conditions.
