Atkins Wins Second North/South
For the second time in as many years, Brock Atkins last weekend claimed the North/South 50 at Moama Speedway and in the process claimed the National Super Sedan Series point score.
Atkins would start from position seven in the final, with Brad Pascoe and brother Todd Atkins starting on the front row.
Todd would get the jump on Pascoe in the initial start, but it would be called back for an incident further back in the field.
Pascoe got a better start on the second attempt, but Todd was strong enough on the outside to scoot by and take the lead.
Within a few laps Brock was able to move his way into the top four, with Todd now leading Pascoe, Ellis Dickenson and Brock.
Heavy lapped traffic would come into play as the race went on, and eventually it gave Pascoe the chance he needed, Todd stuck on the bottom behind a lapped car with Pascoe flying around the outside to take the lead on lap eleven.
A few laps later Brock would get by Dickenson to take third place, and this would remain the status quo until a midrace stoppage bought the field back together once again.
Pascoe came under plenty of pressure on the restart, but again the race came under cautions on lap twenty-six with a multi car pile up that eliminated four competitors.
This time Pascoe got away cleanly while the brothers battled it out, Brock eventually getting by Todd on lap thirty-one.
Brock would then close in on Pascoe, making multiple attempts to get by but unable to get the move to stick.Lap after lap Brock would stick the nose underneath Pascoe but it wasn’t until a lapped car saw Pascoe move slightly higher on the track that Brock was able to finally make the move, grabbing the lead with just five to go.
Pascoe didn’t give up and would continue to attempt to regain the spot, diving low in the final corner as a lapped car spun tight in front of him, seeing Brock cross the line just before the yellows came on, the race over and officially defeating Pascoe and Todd Atkins.
The result was also enough that Atkins claimed the overall NSSS ahead of Brad Pascoe and Mick Nicola Snr.
