Victorian Jaxon Vella has taken his Daihatsu Charade to victory in the 2020/2021 SSA Junior Sedan SA State Title held at the Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier on Saturday Night.
The major moment of the race occurred within sight of the finish when Mildura’s Carter Metcalfe tried to make the winning move as the leaders worked their way through the lap traffic.
Unfortunately for Metcalfe he would fall to third place in the concluding stages after stalking Vella for much of the twenty laps.
Thirty SSA Junior Sedans representing four different states made their way to the picturesque Borderline Speedway in the South East of South Australia with conditions very chilly and at times rain falling throughout the afternoon.
Jaxon Vella and Carter Metcalfe shared the front row for the main event with Vella leading the early laps which were punctuated by a number of stoppages.
Lap nine saw a coming together between Kalgoorlie’s Kayne Dellar and Alexandra’s River Paterson as the pair entered the main straight while at the back end of the top ten with both drivers out of the race at that point.
Vella lead away from the restart with Metcalfe and Liken Paterson trying to stay in touch with the leader.As lap traffic came into play Metcalfe and Paterson tried to use the opportunity to move past Vella with Aaron Tranter having the best run through the slower cars to hit second place with just two laps remaining.
Jaxon Vella crossed the line at the end of the twenty circulations 2.041 seconds ahead of Aaron Tranter with Carter Metcalfe holding on to third.
Liken Paterson held off fellow Alexandra club member Dylan Barrow to finish fourth from Ky McEwin, Drew Flatman, Breanna Simpson, Tasmanian Champion Lachlan Robins and Victorian Rhys Meakins rounding out the top ten.
A fantastic effort from all competitors and their families for taking part in the first South Australian State Title held for SSA Junior Sedan for two years.
