Rose Firms For State Title

Barry Rose has absolutely dominated the 2017 Collie Production Sedan Championships on Saturday night at the Quit Collie Speedway, on his way to winning his sixth Feature Race of the season.

It was also the third successive win for Rose in the Collie Championship and fourth overall after also winning in 2012.

Rose won all three of his qualifying heats, before leading the A Main from start to finish, in the event that doubled as Round Two of the 2017/2018 South West Production Sedan Series.

The only defeat of the night for Rose came in the top six pole shuffle, where current Western Australian Champion Drew Ogle advanced from position three, defeating Kyle Sayer and Rose on his way to pole position.

Ogle and Rose shared the front row for the feature race with Rose getting the jump on Ogle.

Kyle Sayer quickly ducked into third place and begun about trying to find a way past Ogle.

Twenty Seven cars were on hand for the event with some of the best racing of the season at the Collie venue seen during the nine qualifying heats.

Beau Riley was adjudged to have jumped the start after moving through to fourth on the opening lap and was relegated four positions during the first stoppage after Jess Hall and Allan Harper came together with Hall retiring from the race.

A few more stoppages were required during the first half of the race with Jayden Maughan, Paul Stevens and Carnarvon's Kathryn Harper retiring from the race after incurring damage to their cars.

Rose would continue to pull away after every restart with both Ogle and Sayer not able to stay with the little Sigma.

Sayer moved into second place past Ogle before retiring from the race with twelve laps remaining.

As the laps wore down Rose got out to a big lead from Ogle, Leviston, Richard Nelson and Kane McDiarmid. Ogle then retired with a right rear wheel issue on his Commodore with five laps remaining handing second place to Leviston.

Beau Riley's car expired within sight of the finish after running inside the top five for the second half of the event.

Barry Rose would go on to win the 2017 Collie Production Sedan Championships by nearly half a lap and in the process sent an ominous warning to his rivals ahead of the 2017/2018 SSWA Production Sedan State Title to be held at the same venue in late January 2018.

Veteran Wayne Leviston drove brilliantly to finish second from Richard Nelson, Kane McDiarmid and local Shannon Cherry rounding out the top five.

Only seven cars completed the distance with a number of drivers with some work to do before Round Three of the 2017/2018 South West Production Sedan Series to be held at the Augusta Margaret River Speedway on Saturday 6th January 2018.
