 :: PRESS RELEASE ::
:: Johnson Wins Modified Production Feature In The Midwest

Sunday, 7 February 2010
Jason Crowe - SSA Media

Mick Johnson won the WA Country Builders, Midwest Modified Magic at the Geraldton City Speedway in Western Australia on Saturday night, surviving a two lap restart to take victory.

Johnson defeated Aydan Trewern, who surrended the lead with two laps to go, in the Round Five decider, while Albany's Matt Kata would finish a very credible third. Kim Jolly had an outstanding night, finishing fourth, after having numerous problems at other rounds, with Brendon Selleck and Ben Strautins finishing fifth and sixth respectively.

The race had three stoppages, the first on the opening lap, which would result in Ray Clifton and John Purser retiring.

A resultant restart, resulted in another stoppage with Paul Briggs being sent to the rear of the field. Briggs would ultimately finish seventh on the tight 360 metre circuit.

With two laps to go, former State Champion, Allan Mortimer spun in heavy traffic. Mortimer would be sent rear of field, while Trewerns handy advantage was eroded. Trewern would run wide on the restart, giving Broome based driver Mick Johnson the room needed to take the lead, and claim victory.

The point standings will take another twist in a very close season, with leader John Purser failing to finish, while Johnson (second) claimed maximum points in the Feature Race.

Round six will be held in Bunbury in a fortnight, with the prestigous Presidents Cup.
